Professional Background

Paul McCann

Prior to becoming a Registered Psychotherapist, I was a senior University administrator at the University of Toronto serving as Assistant Dean and Director of Human Resources, Faculty of Arts and Science, Assistant Vice-Provost, Professional Faculties in the Office of the Vice-President (Academic) and as both the Assistant Warden and Acting Warden, Hart House.

From 2010 to 2015, I worked as a personal counsellor and psychotherapist at Trent University, the University of Toronto (Scarborough) and Ryerson University, providing personal and group counselling to help students with concerns that interfered with academic performance and emotional well being. Common concerns and issues included depression, stress, and anxiety, procrastination, concentration, and motivation, grief and loss, relationship concerns (peer, partner, and family), abuse (verbal, sexual, and physical) post traumatic stress, anger management, sleep difficulties, perfectionism, OCD, sexual orientation and gender identity and adjustment to university life and Canadian culture.

In August of 2015, I took up residence in Arnprior/McNab Braeside in the Ottawa Valley in order for my partner and I to be close to our two daughters who live and work in Ottawa.

Fees and Coverage

Counselling and psychotherapy services are not covered by OHIP. The fee for a 50 min appointment is $170.00. Fees may be reimbursed in part or in total by extended health insurance at your place of employment. Clients pay the fee (cheque and cash accepted – email transfer preferred)  at the end of each session, and are given a receipt for either insurance or income tax purposes. For clients with demonstrably limited resources, a fee reduction may be possible upon discussion with me.
